Halifax Crafters Spring Market 2019

This was this first time I got into the Halifax Crafters on my own- usually I apply with Inkstorm Silkscreen Collective, so this was very  exciting for me and I was busy all Spring with my new obsession- natural dyes. I had been dyeing with Indigo and expanded into working with logwood extract, cochineal, Brazilwood and making my own dyes from acorns, avocados, marigolds, turmeric, purple cabbage and onion skins. I also made my own iron solution from rusty nails and vinegar. I overtook the kitchen with my dye pots and had the sewing machine, serger and iron on overdrive....

Mask Exhibit

Last year was very busy returning to my mask work in preparation for my exhibit at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre Gallery in  Toronto which ran from January through March, 2019. I gratefully received a creation grant from Arts Nova Scotia to make self portrait masks and over the course of the year, I made approximately 35 new ones to combine with ones I had made prior to that. All together, I exhibited over 60 self portrait masks for "Blended" which featured my mask alongside paintings by Ottawa artist Norman Takeuchi. Halifax Crafter's Spring Fair

I've been busy silkscreening new napkin sets, tea towels, cards and T-shirts in preparation for this upcoming weekend at the Halifax Crafter's Spring Fair. I'll be there at the Inkstorm Silkscreening Collective table, selling my stuff and fundraising for Inkstorm as well. Very excited to be there Saturday and Sunday from 10-5 at the Olympic Centre and hope, despite the heavy rains headed our way, that lots of people still come out!

14 Bells Fine Art Gallery is up and running! It is located in the Hydrostones in Halifax's North End, run by Cheryl Bell. Opened just in March but tomorrow is the official Grand Opening!
