The Ki series by Miya Turnbull is a combination of paintings overlaid with ink blowings and penwork. "Ki" in Japanese translates to Universal Life Force (also known as Chi or Prana). The ink represents Ki energy, the energy that permeates all living things. The paintings are a study of colour, form, movement and life.
These can be seen as micro and macrocosmic, both at the same time. The circles represent the seed, cell and egg, as well as conception, the sun and the cosmos. The circle and spiral form can be seen as a Mandala, a symbol for the sacred centre. The lines represent tree branches, roots and the process of growth and change itself. I am inspired by the beauty, simplicity and perfection of nature.
